Your nature photos could win you thousands in 2020 National Park Foundation contest

If you think you’ve taken some great photos on federal public lands over the past decade, you might want to look through them and pick the best one.

The National Park Foundation is doing something a little different this year for its Share the Experience photo contest.

The contest looks at photos from amateur photographers that “highlight the best of America’s federal public lands and waters” in multiple categories. More than $28,000 in cash or other prizes will be given to winners.

Photos have to be taken on lands managed by the National Park Service, U.S. Bureau of Land Management, Bureau of Reclamation, Fish and Wildlife Service, Forest Service or the Army Corps of Engineers.

This year, the photo contest is a “Best of the Decade,” so anything taken between Jan. 1, 2010, and Dec. 31, 2020, will be accepted, the National Park Foundation said.

“The 2020 Share the Experience photo contest is now open, and this year’s special edition contest commemorates the ‘Best of the Decade,’ celebrating photos taken over the last ten years through 2020,” the National Park Foundation said. “So, dust off your ol’ photo albums (we know, they’re likely online!) and submit some of your favorite memories and shots.”

The 2019 winners featured stunning photos on lands from St. Louis to Crystal River National Wildlife Refuge and Redwood National and State Parks to Yellowstone. More than 9,000 photos were submitted as part of the contest, according to the National Park Foundation.

“These beautiful images highlight shared moments and incredible adventures across the nation and provide irresistible motivation for you to get out there, #RecreateResponsibly, and experience America’s federal public lands and waters,” the National Park Foundation said.
