Massive bison escape farm life to stroll down a Washington neighborhood, video shows
Bison are taking a stroll down a Washington neighborhood street — and it’s not the first time.
Bison named Hazel and Baxter keep escaping the farm where they live and make their way down the street in Spokane’s South Hill, KXLY reported. They first escaped in late July.
“In the early morning hours on July 29th, 2020 two bison wandered away from a ranch on the upper South Hill,” the Spokane Police Department said in a Facebook post. “Citizens reported the bison wandering down the roadway.”
On Thursday, the mischievous bison were roaming the neighborhood again, KREM reported. This time, the bison were in a “low-speed chase” that lasted nearly two hours, the news outlet reported. They covered about 3 to 4 miles.
Video Laura Cabe posted to Facebook captured the bison walking down the neighborhood street and grazing in front yards Thursday morning.
“You don’t see this everyday,” Cabe wrote.
Bison are the largest land-dwelling mammal in North America, according to the National Park Service. Baxter weighs 1,700 pounds and Hazel weighs 1,300 pounds, the Spokane Police Department said. Some bison can also run up to 30 miles per hour, according to the National Park Service.
“The bison were familiar with people,” the Spokane police said in their Facebook post. “(H)owever, we need to remember large animals as such are still dangerous.”
“The animals should not be approached or antagonized.”
