Marine terminal director Len Faucher has left the port for the private sector, the port announced on Facebook.

Faucher’s last day was Tuesday. He now works for Jones Stevedoring, port spokeswoman Jennie Foglia-Jones said, adding that Faucher plans to stay in the area.

Jones Stevedoring, which serves ports on the West Coast, has offices in Portland and Seattle, according to its website.

“Len began working as the Marine Terminal Director for the Port of Olympia in January of 2015,” the port’s message on Facebook reads.

“He has successfully fulfilled the commission goals of diversifying the port’s cargo portfolio by adding dairy cattle exports to Vietnam, organic grain imports from Turkey, a gold ore import from Europe, and rice imports from Thailand while maintaining strong relationships with existing log tenants Weyerhaeuser and Holbrook.”

The job wasn’t without its challenges, however.

During his tenure, he also encountered community concerns about potential military shipments through the port, layberth agreements that didn’t materialize and a former Washington state ferry that long overstayed its welcome at the port.

In the interim, the port’s operations director, Rudy Rudolph, will oversee the marine terminal, Foglia-Jones said.
