Family member arrested in fatal Grand Mound shooting on Sunday
The Thurston County Sheriff’s Office arrested a family member in connection with the shooting that killed a 24-year-old man in the Grand Mound area on Sunday.
Throughout Sunday, detectives executed multiple search warrants, conducted interviews and collected evidence, according to a Sept. 14 news release from the Sheriff’s Office. As a result of the investigation, probable cause was established to arrest a family member on first-degree manslaughter charges. A 19-year-old Rochester man was booked into the Thurston County Jail for the crime.
Deputies were originally dispatched at 7 a.m. Sunday to a home on 201st Avenue Southwest to reports of a shooting. Deputies and West Thurston Fire crews attempted to revive the victim at the scene, but the person ultimately died.
In a separate social media post, Sheriff Derek Sanders said the shooting was in the same area as a shootout July 19. In that case, Sanders said the incident was initially reported as a drive-by shooting, but it turned out to be a shootout between two people who knew each other. One shooter was shot, taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, and later arrested. The other was at large.
