For the first time since 2011, Seattle Seahawks fans must prepare for life without Russell Wilson at the helm of their football team.
Pending Wilson’s medical and approval of the trade, the Seahawks traded their Super Bowl-winning quarterback and a fourth-round pick on Tuesday to the Denver Broncos in exchange for Broncos quarterback Drew Lock, tight end Noah Fant, defensive end Shelby Harris, two first-round picks, two second-round picks and a fifth-round pick.
Understandably, the news that the Seahawks are trading away their nine-time Pro Bowl quarterback has caused some waves on NFL Twitter. Here are some tweets in the immediate aftermath of the trade:
Even the Seahawks’ official Twitter account joined in on the fun, referencing Tom Hanks’ movie Cast Away in which Hanks’ character creates an imaginary friend using a volleyball called Wilson.
You’ll find it difficult to come across a Seahawks fan happy about the trade, but fans of other teams around the league are certainly finding some comedy in the trade.
While Seahawks fans entered a state of panic for the future of the franchise, Broncos wide receiver Jerry Jeudy tweeted his reaction to the trade:
