So where are the Seahawks now?

Certifiably rebuilding.

On a day like no other in Seahawks history, Seattle agreed to trade Russell Wilson to Denver once he waives his no-trade clause — which as of Tuesday afternoon he had yet to do pending him meeting with the Broncos soon. That leaves the Seahawks without the one piece all teams that just missed the playoffs wish they had.

A proven, franchise quarterback.

It also leaves the Seahawks — 7-10 last season, their most losses since 2009 — with multiple, top future draft choices in return, and a chance to parlay them into a younger, cheaper quarterback than Wilson.

The News Tribune has confirmed Seattle is receiving a first-round pick and a second-round choice from Denver this year, a first-round and second-round pick in 2023 and the Broncos’ fifth-round pick in 2022.

The Broncos are also sending the Seahawks quarterback Drew Lock, who has started 21 games in three NFL seasons, plus tight end Noah Fant and defensive lineman Shelby Harris — plus the ninth-overall pick in next month’s draft.

Five picks in all to the Seahawks, over the next two drafts.

The Seahawks are sending Denver Wilson, his $37 million salary-cap charge for this year and a fourth-round pick this year.

In addition to number nine, Denver also owns the 16th-overall pick in round one of this year’s draft. Denver is keeping that. The Broncos’ additional first-round pick to the Seahawks is for 2023.

The Seahawks also get the Broncos’ pick at the bottom of round two this year, at 64th overall.

The fifth-round pick the Seahawks are getting from the Broncos in the deal is for this year.

As of Tuesday afternoon, it appeared the Seahawks will have at least eight picks in next month’s draft:

  • Round 1 (ninth overall, from Denver)
  • Round 2 (41st overall)
  • Round 2 (64th overall, from Denver)
  • Round 3 (74th overall)
  • Round 4 (106th overall)
  • Round 5 (151st overall)
  • Round 5 (152nd overall, from Denver)
  • Round 7 (227th overall)

Having four of the first 74 selections in this year’s draft gives the Seahawks some capital from which they could trade for a quarterback to start for them in 2022.

That is, if 70-year-old coach Pete Carroll and second-year offensive coordinator Shane Waldron decide Lock isn’t more than he was in Denver, largely a backup.
